At least seven people have been confirmed dead and four others injured in a fatal accident that took place in Osara, Adavi Local Government of Kogi State.
The accident occurred barely a week after 25 people lost their lives in a tanker accident in Felele Lokoja-Abuja road.
It was learnt that the ghastly accident happened at about 4pm on Monday in a spot popularly called saw mill.
An eyewitness, Mohammed Imgiyaaz told journalist that the deceased victims where returning from Lokoja Market were they had gone to buy food items.
According to him, “there is a popular driver called Egbunu known for transporting passengers along Okene-Lokoja road with different vehicle.
“Today we where perplexed when we saw him going to Lokoja with a bus from Okene. On his way back from Lokoja, where he went to buy Corn and other food items, the late Egbunu removed the back seat of the bus to put food items belonging to his passengers.
“He sat on the drivers seat alongside two other passengers in front, while the back seat is being occupied by four passengers. The remaining seat in the bus was loaded with food stuff. So a truck was coming behind them which later push the bus into the bush and it tumbled severally. All the Seven passengers inside the bus died instantly.”
It was however gathered that the truck driver took to his heel over fear of being attacked by villagers in the area.
The Head Of Operation Federal Road Safety Corps Kogi State Suleiman Mohammed who confirmed the incident,said information available to the command shows that five people were confirmed dead, while four was injured.
Mohammed explained that the family of the deceased victims have been contacted for interment.
He however appealed to motorist to be patient while plying the road.
