It was a sad moment for the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and members of his cabinet as the state lost two loyal security details to the cold hands of death within four days.
The governor woke up on Friday to hear of the shocking death of his convoy detail, Busoye Olayinka, popularly called ‘Robot’ , who died in a ghastly motor accident on Thursday night.
This is coming four days after another officer of the Department of State Services in the convoy, Wale Aderemi, had died in an Abeokuta hospital after a brief illness.
Olayinka, An Assistant Superintendent of Police, was involved in the accident along Papa axis of the old Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway around 9 pm on Thursday.
He was said to be traveling with his younger brother whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report. He also lost his life in the accident.
Sources close to the duo said they were traveling to Olayinka’s house after the day’s work.
It was learnt that Governor Amosun had released the night allowance of the convoy on Thursday and Olayinka was rushing home to share part of the money with his immediate family before resuming work the following morning.
His ash-coloured Nissan Premira with registration number- Lagos, PH 406 KJA crashed into a truck with registration number, Kwara, LEM 77 XA along the expressway.
The truck, it was gathered, was reversing from the compound of Dolphin Steel Nig. Ltd into the highway before Olayinka’s vehicle crashed into it.
The State Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Clement Oladele, confirmed the accident, adding that the two victims were taken to the General Hospital in Ifo.
Oladele disclosed that the duo were unconscious at the time the accident happened. He said more details would be released after investigation.
Also, Aderemi died on Monday at Mercy Hospital in Onikolobo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Ekiti State-born officer was said to have been discharged from the same hospital a few days before his death where he was treated for typhoid.
Information given to our reporter revealed that Aderemi fell down in his toilet before he was rushed back to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.
His remains were taken to his hometown in Ekiti on Thursday for burial.
