To further promote sports and sporting activities across the State, the Ogun State Government has revealed plans to collaborate with a Brazilian Sports Outfit on an initiative tagged ‘’Brazil/Gateway Academy’’.
Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Afolabi Afuape stated this while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta on the victory recorded by the Pupils of the African Church Primary School, Onibuku, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of the State, at the 2017 Channels International Kids Football Competition.
Afuape said the plan was aimed at strengthening grassroots sports development especially among youngsters, saying the academy would assist the State to sustain its agenda on youth development through sports with the assurance that the initiative was on course.
“All necessary arrangements have been put in place by the Ministry to fast track smooth realisations of the Brazil/Gateway Academy as soon as possible, because the State has facilities required to kick start the programme which is going to expose and promote the State both locally and internationally especially now that country’s economy is begging for serious international investment,” He said.
He commended Channels Television for organising the competition that has impacted greatly on development of sports, urging the media outfit not to relent in its Corporate Social Responsibilities while challenging other private firms in the country to borrow a leaf from them to encourage youths in sports, noting that sports development had gone beyond what government alone can shoulder.
Hon. Afuape assured that the new champions would not be disbanded as they would automatically be enlisted for the proposed Brazil/Gateway Academy when it gets on board.
