Ikorodu Division is Marginalized in Ambode’s Administration – Otunba Olukoga

By Okunade Adekunle

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu and Special Adviser on Education to Ex-Governor Babatunde Fashola, Otunba Fatai Olukoga, has accused Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos of marginalising the Ikorodu Division of the state in the running of his government, saying that the division deserves more than it is getting.

Olukoga, in an interview with WESTERN POST, lamented the state of raod infrastructure in Ikorodu axis of the state, saying the Governor concentrated more infrastructure in Epe Division of Lagos East Senatorial District of the state.

The APC Chieftain said: “Ikorodu Division is not being taking care of at all. Ikorodu has been marginalized and we are saying it but they are not listening now. Most of the infrastructures that have been constructed in the state are not prevalence in Ikorodu. How many Ikorodu people do we have in the cabinet? We only have two. How many do we have in most of the agencies that were being appointed? In terms of facilities, what do we get in Ikorodu? Look at what is happening in Epe Division. If you go to Epe now it has been turned to be a mini-London. All their roads have been rehabilitated. Even the roads that were done by Former Governor Fashola, Lagos-Ikorodu road which used to be lighted then but now there is no light.”

Olukoga lamented: “There is always gridlock from Owode Onirin to Ikorodu and anything is done. Within the journey we will spend 4hrs which shouldn’t be. The light supposed to have been repaired by now. The LASTMA and VIO that use to be on the road then you hardly see them now and banned vehicles are on the road , nobody is taking an action on it. The Commercial bus drivers are doing what they like on the road and nobody query them. If we have a government that knows what he is doing and doing his job well, they will never come back to the road. During Fashola’s administration we have reduction of all things act but immediately this government comes into power he relaxed and allowed them to do whatever they like.

“Many people are building houses here and there without approval, many people are getting things done without approval and yet we say we have a government and when you talk to those in government on it they will not listen. We know something is going on because Ikorodu is seriously marginalized. How many roads are being constructed in Ikorodu today. We were promised Igbin road almost 3months now, no contractor on the site. Igbogbo road that was being done from Igbese point at the roundabout has not been completed. Unless all these roads are done then we will say we are benefitting from this government and it will make life for us. But currently we are marginalized, most of our major roads are not good. Itoki road is bad, Shagamu road is bad, Ikorodu roundabout, from Laspotech to ogijo-Odogunyan are very bad and yet we have a government in the state and our own party and the Governor is looking at it”

He continued, “It shows that Ikorodu is marginalized. We have to say it. I will say it if nobody is ready to say it that Ikorodu is marginalized. Even the parastatals appointments that were made how many Ikorodu people are in the board even when a non-party member was appointed as a member of the board, no Ikorodu man or woman was appointed, why should it be. Those who worked, spent money and time are not getting it. Seriously in this current government in Lagos, Ikorodu is marginalized.”
