The Ogun State House of Assembly has again assured the newly constituted Authorities of Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of its readiness to enact more enabling legislations that would ensure running and optimal results of the councils.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave this assurance while declaring open an interactive session organized by the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for Chairmen of Local Government Councils, Local Council Development Areas and Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) in the State at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Adekunbi remarked that the session was organized to address various administrative challenges that were likely to affect the proper takeoff of the LCDA’s in the State, stressing that the idea behind the creation of additional administrative units at the Local level was to bring the system of governance closer to the people as well as offering them better access to democratic dividends.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Jide Ojuko, stated that the programme was designed to prepare both the elected and appointed officers for the herculean task ahead, promising that the ministry would put in place more capacity training programmes for effective service delivery at the various council levels.
He added that seasoned facilitators had been engaged to take the participants through areas such as; Office practice and relationship between the political officers and career officers, revenue generation for effective running of the councils and emerging LCDAs, legislative process as well as the roles of Community Development Associations in the Council.
Ojuko while congratulating the newly elected Chairmen and appointed Secretaries to the Councils, LCDAs and HOLGAs charged them to see their positions as a call to service with a view to positively affecting the lives of the people at the grassroots.
