The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, on Monday installed Alhaja Iswat Abiola Amerigun as the new Iyaloja of Ibadanland.
The installation put to rest the controversies trailing the removal of the erstwhile Iyaloja, Chief Labake Lawal, which had polarised the leadership of market associations in Ibadan since November, 2016.
The installation was done at the Popoyemoja palace of Olubadan, where Iyalode of Ibadanland, Alhaja Aminat Abiodun, decorated the new Iyaloja with special beads for the new position.
The monarch had on January 10, this year, constituted a a committee to look into the crisis rocking the Ibadan Market Traders Association under the leadership of Lawal.
The committee was set up after the association held its congress at Olupoyi Compound at Oja’ba in December 2016, where the traders announced the removal of Lawal on allegation of gross misconduct and financial impropriety. The reports of the committee, however, was not made public. But sources within the palace said the allegations against former Iyaloja were overwhelming.
In a brief chat with newsmen after the installation, the elated Ameringun, who commended Olubadan, Iyalode and Ibadan Market Traders Association for the roles they played in her emergence as Iyaloja.
She assured that her reign would ensure transparency and accountability and she would also ensure positive turnaround of businesses to ensure steady growth and development of Ibadanland.
According to her, “I give special thanks to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Iyalode of Ibadanland, Olubadan-in-Council, wives of the Olubadan, Chief Adisa Oladapo, Babaloja and all members of Ibadan Traders Association.”
“I also thank my father and Uncle, Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his wife for their unflinching support.”
