By Adeola Oladele

Unfazed by the development on Tuesday during which the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, shunned him at a public event, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has said he will not stop to accord Oba Akiolu the respect he deserves.

Oba Akiolu has raked in opprobrium over his action with many condemning him and calling him unprintable names on social media.

But the foremost traditional ruler in Yorubaland said he was unperturbed by Akiolu’s action and pleaded with people to stop castigating the monarch.

The Ooni of Ife spoke of his commitment to ensuring unity among traditional rulers in Yorubaland.

Oba Ogunwusi spoke to Punch Correspondent through the Director, Media and Public Affairs at Ooni’s Palace, Mr. Moses Olafare, on Wednesday.

He said: “Nobody should castigate anybody” for doing what he did because of the position he holds and because of his age… Ooni would not stop to accord his colleagues and every category of people the respect they deserve.

“The Ooni of Ife is not ready to make any official statement over what happened between him and the
Oba of Lagos. He still holds Oba Akiolu in high esteem and what happened yesterday will not stop
the Ooni from holding him in high esteem.”
