A Lagos Lawmaker, Hon. Olusola Abdulhakeem Sokunle, has commended the Buhari led administration on the exit of Nigeria’s economy from recession, advising the government to sustain the economic growth of the country.
Sokunle, who is the legislator representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, stated that federal government should ensure that economic policies that helped in bringing into extinction recession in the country should be strengthened.
In a statement issued by the Lawmaker in Oshodi, Lagos, today, Sokunle stated that the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket was never a regret based on their tremendous performance in the revamping of the country’s economy, stressing further that it is clear indication that the duo have the sagacity to take Nigeria beyond where it is now.
Sokunle said “The economic policies that made Nigeria to exit from recession should be strengthened and sustained to ensure that the realise economic development. This period is a turning point for the country and the people, it is a great achievement for President Buhari led administration”
He stressed “Nigerians should encourage government as they achieve this great economic growth. The figure revealed by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) systematically would translate to more opportinuties for Nigerians as time goes on. More employment opportunities would come up, more investors will come into the economic system and our per capital income will automatically increase”
The legislator advised Nigerians to make use of the prevailing opportunities which the economic recovery would present to them as most sectors of the economy would experience huge transformation soon.
It will be recalled that the NBS stated that Nigeria’s economic recovery was driven basically by the performance of four main economic activities comprising oil, agriculture, manufacturing, and trade.
Female Football Competition: Lagos Lawmaker Sponsors Sports as Ambode’s Wife Donates N500,000 To Winners
The Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode has rewarded Safe and Sound FC, the Gold Winner of the first Female Football Competition in Epe with a sum of N500, 000.
Mrs. Ambode 1st Female Football Competition sponsored by Hon. Abiodun Tobun representing Epe Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The event was held on Saturday evening at Salako Playing Ground, Epe in the audience of hundreds of youths and various leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Safe and Sound FC emerged the winner of the tournament after defeating Teach Them Soccer 2-1 at the finals of the competition and clinched the trophy.
Mrs. Ambode also decorated the triumphant team.
Speaking in an interview, Tobun said: “Sincerely I am happy and feeling fulfilled. Catching these girls from the grassroots and nurturing them will save our society from many social vices.
“We can keep our children of the street and get engaged with reasonable things. This kind of things will save our girls from what are immoral. This is the beginning, we are moving to the next level.
“I can see these girls playing professional football representing Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole. One of them has been invited to U-20 team.
“We have picked the first 11 that will be representing this division and I promise we will nurture them.We want others to emulate this and encourage women to play football so that we develop with advance country.”
On reason for naming the tournament after Mrs. Ambode, Tobun said that he did so to honour as the number one woman in the state.
The lawmaker, who observed that proper attention had not been given to female football in the country, said that the development motivated him to back rolled development of female at the grassroots.
In his remark, Hon. Muyiwa Jimoh, the Deputy Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly sad that sports could be used to encourage youths development.
Jimoh, who commended the sponsor, said that female football needed encouragement.
“As we develop them in sporting activities, we should also develop the brain. Female football is just taking it gravity, I salute the courage of Hon. Abiodun Tobun for this,” he said.
According to him, great footballer of then world are also successful in their chosen careers, urging the young football talents to read wide.
Also speaking, Hon. Segun Olulade, representing Epe Constituency II at the Assembly called on meaningful Nigerians and corporate organisations to engage the youths with regular football competitions.
“Government alone cannot dot it, I think corporate organisations should help the government engage our youths meaningfully in all sports, not only in football,” Olulade said.
The Chairman of the Epe Division Football Association, Mr. Segun Osinaike said that the competitions had revealed so many hidden female talents in the region.
“We have been able to discovered a lot of talents from the group stage. We have no fewer than 22 female players that can represent the state at any tournament now,” he said.
Earlier, Papa Soccer Angels defeated Springsoca Academy through penalty to win the bronze after the match ended 2-2 in the regulatory time.
Other teams in the tournament were: Iderade Amazon’s, Ajagunobe Babes, Net Breakers Girls and Shashu Queens.
The Coach of Papa Soccer Angels, Hassan Musa said that the determination, and focus of the team made the team to clinched the third position in the competition.
The coach of the gold winner, Toye Alawaye, who attributed the victory to strong determinations and perseverance of the girls, urged the government and corporate organisations to aid development of female football.
