Ten persons have been confirmed dead during a cult clash in Ilesa, Osun State, Monday evening.
Residents of Ifofin, Idasa, Irojo, were thrown into panic following the clash.
It would be recalled that a man was killed by some suspected cultists at Atakumosa East Local Government during last Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election.
It was gathered that the recent killings were a reprisal by a rival group who stormed Ilesa and started tracking some cultists’ spots.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
Opalola disclosed that five persons were killed according to information available to the command.
Eyewitnesses account however said that more than 10 people were killed in the clash.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, said the security is on top of the situation.
He said more policemen have been deployed to the town, urging the people to go about their business without fear.
