Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday, kicked off distribution of over 12,000 free pregnancy kits tagged “MAMA Kits” for Vulnerable Pregnant Women across the State.
Aregbesola, who disclosed that the kits contain critical items required for Safe Delivery, assured that the items will be accessible from Government Hospitals and Primary Health Care Centres across the State.
Speaking at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park during the distribution, Aregbesola said his government would be further committed to safety of pregnant women.
Pregnant women across the state stormed the venue of the programme aimed at saving one million lives of maternal, new born and child health.
Aregbesola said, the delivery kits was supported by Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in collaboration with Save One Million Lives Programme for Result and maternal, new born and child health.
He stated that the gesture was to encourage expectant mothers to deliver their babies at health facility rather than homes and unhygienic means.
”The delivery pack would be provided for women most especially at rural areas containing one-meter piece of cotton cloth (baby wrapper), one laundry soap, a pair of gloves, and a piece of cotton wool.
”Also, small gauze, cord ligature, razor blade and a meter of polythene sheet which is used on the delivery table and a methylated spirit with sanitary pads for the mother.
He commended the Federal Government through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for providing 70 percent (10,000) of the kits, saying the state government would be giving out 30 percent (2,500) to vulnerable pregnant women.
Ealier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, advised pregnant women to access the free kits for their own benefits.
He, however, called on both local and international donors not to relent in supporting the Health Care Development Board in order to ensure safety delivery of pregnant women.
