Owo: Armed Gang Who Raided 4 Banks Nabbed

Pandemonium had reigned in ancient Owo, Ondo State recently when a gang of armed robbers numbering about 50 stormed the town and operated simultaneously in both” A and B” police divisions in the town so as to have a free access to the banks they wanted to rob.

The robbers operated in EKO Bank, WEMA Bank, First Bank and Skye Bank. They came in several vehicles including SUVs and shot sporadically, killing some policemen and civilians in the process.

But the policemen led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations put up a strong counter attack, leading to the death of seven of the armed robbers and recovery of some arms and ammunition

Arms recovered included six assault rifles, 17 AK47 rifles, 7 pump action guns, 11 dynamites and 12,000 rounds of ammunition. Also, about N9,330,880 was recovered from the robbers including 3 police berets.

But one of the robbers sustained gun wounds and was later arrested alive. He is said to be assisting the police in their investigations.

Commending the efforts of the Nigerian Army over the assistance given the police in overpowering the robbers, the Ondo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Issac Eke, said the combined team of police and army overpowered the robbers.
