The Caretaker Chairman of Ido Local Government area of Oyo State, Honourable Saka Abiona Fashola has empowered not less than 115 people in the local government area on Tuesday.
He said the programme was designed to bring a new lease of life to the people of the council area.
He also appealed to government at all levels to give priority to women empowerment in their policies and programmes in order to make life easy for them and their children.
Hon. Fashola made the points during the first phase of his empowerment programme held at the premises of the local government.
According to him, women are special breed created by God to showcase the much desired integrity in nation-building, hence, reason government should accord them the privilege in their policies.
In his address, Hon. Fashola said the scheme would bring a new lease of life to the less privileged, most especially the peasant farmers, widow and aged.
According to him, about one hundred and fifty people across the 10 wards in the council benefited from the scheme, assuring that the gesture will be extended to others who are yet to benefit.
“I assure that same gesture will be extended to others who are yet to benefit from the scheme. I strongly believe that acting together in solidarity will lead us to rapid socio-economic and political development in the state.
“I want to assure the good people of Ido local government that this programme will be a continuous exercise, and I want to also appeal to the beneficiaries to made good use of the items.
He recalled that the administration of governor Seyi Makinde from inception had done a lot on infrastructural development within the last nineteen month.
He also recalled that his administration had achieved success in the area of complete renovation of a block of three classrooms at NUD primary school, procurement and installation of brand new transformer for Ido local government Secretariat.
Also, dredging of rivers and streams across the council area, repair of abandoned bulldozer and others.
Hon. Fashola thanked members of the caretaker committee, management and the entire workers of Ido local government for their support and cooperation.
Addressing party faithfuls at the programme, PDP chairman in Ido local government, Alhaji Akinsola Ayuba commended the council chairman for the gesture, saying such programme will further encourage the people and as well address poverty among them.
Speaking with journalists, the lawmaker representing Ido constituency in the state Assembly Hon. Abdurazak Mabaje described the empowerment scheme as a welcome development adding that the party is determined to reach out to it members with provision of adequate empowerment poverty alleviation materials.
He admonished them to make judicious use of the items given to them.
Some of the items distributed to farmers included sprayers, farmers boot, chemicals and others. The aged were given food items, Ankara and Ten thousand naira cash each, while the widows got Twenty Naira thousand naira cash each.
