Christopher Chukwudi and Olumuyiwa Fayemi have been dragged before an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court in Osun State for allegedly beating their neighbour, Aro Olatunbosun to coma.
Chukwudi (61) and Fayemi (38) were accused of raining punches on Olatunbosun till he became unconscious on June 21, 2021 around 03:00pm at London Street, Ile-Ife.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi informed the court that the defendant conspired among themselves and stole the victim’s N3,000 after he passed out.
He added that the duo assaulted Olatunbosun by beating him with a stick and fist blow.
According to him, the defendants conducted themselves in a manner that may cause the breach of public peace in the neighbourhood.
Osanyintuyi said that the offence committed contravened sections 70, 351, 383, 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault, breach of public peace and stealing slammed against them.
The defence counsel, Mr. Ben Adirieje, applied for the bail of the defendants in most liberal term promising the court that the accused persons would not abuse the bail if granted.
Magistrate O. B. Adediwura granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each in like sum.
Adediwura added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, provide reliable sureties and that their addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.
The case was then adjourned till July 14 for mention.
