A 20-year-old fashion designer, Taiwo Ayomide, has been reportedly died following the alleged brutalization by a police officer in Osun State.
The deceased was said to have died Sunday morning at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he was receiving treatment.
Ayomide has been battling for his life following a brutal gun attack on him by a suspected police officer whose identity has not been known since the day of the incident.
Ayomide and one of his brothers identified as Oladimeji Wasiu were said to be riding on a motorcycle from their home town, Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government of the State after Eid-el-Kabir celebration when the incident happened last Wednesday.
The incident was said to have occurred at Ilahun village along Ibokun road at exactly 3:30 pm.
Narrating his experience, Wasiu who was riding on the bike with the deceased said they met four police officers at a checkpoint along Odo Osun (Osun River), Ilahun village, Ibokun road, Obokun Local Government Area and one of the officers who ordered them to stop allegedly hit Ayomide with the butt of the gun.
He further alleged that the said police officer was heavily drunk and when he discovered that Ayomide had more than N50 on him, he lost his temper and started hitting him with butt of the gun and the deceased fell down from the bike and became unconscious.
The deceased was said to have been on life support machines since Wednesday.
According to him, the attack left the 20-year-old tailor with a seriously injury on his head, adding that the deceased was rushed to the emergency unit at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, Osogbo where he was receiving treatment before he finally died.
He also alleged that the policeman fled immediately after the attack, carting away the deceased N50,000 and mobile phone.
The DPO at Ibokun Divisional Police Headquarters was said to have deposited the sum of N30,000 naira for the treatment of the Ayomide.
Meanwhile, the State Police Command has arrested the police officer who allegedly Ayomide.
In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Yemisi Opalola, gave the name of the suspected killer officer as Inspector Ago Egharevbe.
Opalola said that he has been tried in orderly room and that the State Commissioner of police, CP Undie Adie had recommended his dismissal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
She further explained that the suspect would be charged to court on Monday.
