Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally dropped his initial prevarications about throwing his hats into the ring for the 2023 presidential election, WESTERN POST can reveal.
Osinbajo, it was learnt, on Monday met with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111 at the monarch’s private residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Details of what transpired at the meeting were still sketchy on Wednesday. WP sources, however, said Vice President Osinbajo sought the royal father’s support for his 2023 aspiration.
He also asked the top traditional ruler to help him arrange a meeting with Yoruba traditional rulers and rally them behind him.
Only Osinbajo and Alaafin reportedly attended the meeting said to be a private one.
It was learnt that the VP, who visited the state along with his wife Dolapo, was escorted to the meeting by the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan.
Osinbajo was received at the Ibadan Airport, Alakia before they moved to the private residence of the Alaafin at Jericho area of Ibadan.
The Oyo State deputy governor also later accompanied Osinbajo back to the airport after the meeting, though he was not part of the meeting with Alaafin.
Vice President Osinbajo is yet to officially declare his interest to contest the 2023 poll.
Many analysts had stated that if his erstwhile principal, former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who nominated him for the vice president slot is running, Osinbajo would not run.
Asiwaju Tinubu too is yet to officially take a stand on the imminent race.
