2019 Elections: Yoruba, Key Stakeholders in Buhari’s Project – Oke

By Adeola Oladele, Ibadan
The South West Director-General for the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation, Chief Olusola Oke has disclosed that Yorubas in the south west states are special stakeholders in President Muhammadu Buhari’s project for the country if re-elected on February 16
Oke, who spoke with newsmen at a meeting with fifty-four support groups for the re-election of Buhari/Osinbajo in Ibadan on Monday, affirmed that  the Yorubas mainly brought Buhari’s administration into being, adding that that they had the advantage of producing the government.
He added that the development in turn resulted to the various benefits in terms of juicy portfolios being enjoyed by Yorubas in the south west.
“We are special stakeholders because we brought his administration into being and we have had the advantage of producing that government.
“I have enumerated in the past, the various benefits in terms of the portfolio, in terms of the revival of railway, in terms of the roads, in terms of N-Power programme, in terms of the revival of the agriculture, revival of the economy, adding that in terms of everything, the Yorubas stood in a better position than any other zone in Nigeria.”
He pointed out that President Buhari has always assured that after his eight years term if re-elected, power would return to the south, stating that Yorubas are interested in the power shift owing to many years they have been taken the back seat.
“My message to Yorubas, therefore, is that we must justify our voting strength. We have 16 million registered voters, the only way we can justify this is to return at least 60 percent of this to Mr President.
“It is our government. We do not want the position of the Vice Presidency to go elsewhere and the only way it will not ho elsewhere is for us to vote for Buhari to win. If Buhari wins, Vice Presidency will remain with us here. If he wins and we have majority of the votes cast from south, we stand the chance of producing the next president,” Oke said.
Describing Yoruba people as well educated, exposed and smart, Chief Oke opined that they knew the right thing to do by their voting strength which he said, they have struggled for, for decades.
“So on Saturday 16, we should come out in our number, in our voting strength to vote for Buhari to vote for APC. So we can retain what we have and then we can move with Buhari to the next level where Nigeria can take its rightful position in the comity of nations, where we can justify our population, our strength and corruption will be a thing of the past in Nigeria,” he stated.
In his remark at the event, the Minister of Health, Prof. Issac Adewole maintained that: “For those who care to analyse what is on ground today, you will know that we have never had it as good as this in Nigeria government. We are dominating, we are occupying, and we are being blessed with the opportunity to make things happen.
“The APC is the right political platform. That is where our benefits, strength and hope lie and we are not going to allow any deception to come our way to derail us because we have laid our hands on the plough and we are not going to look back,’’ he assured.
