The Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Mohammed Fadeyi has called for more commitments from teachers in order to further improve the sector, just as he assured them that their rewards start here on earth.
Hon. Fadeyi in a statement marking the 2020 World Teachers Day congratulated teachers in Nigeria and those in Oyo State on the occasion of the celebration which was launched in 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, (UNESCO).
According to him, teachers play a critical role in nation-building and development, hence they deserve to be celebrated at least once a year.
“I am joining millions of eminent Nigerians to celebrate teachers on the 2020 World Teachers Day. It is very encouraging to celebrate teachers every year as a way of encouraging and motivating them to do more.”
“I also want to appeal to government at all levels to embark on measures that will encourage and boost the morale of teachers in order for them to put more commitment in their services.”
“Every successful person has gone through one teacher or the other, either formally or informally, hence celebrating them becomes inevitable”.
Speaking on the theme of the 2020 World Teachers Day, “Young Teachers: the future of the Profession”, the Deputy Speaker said that young, vibrant and intelligent Nigerians who are just joining the teaching profession should see the job of educating and moulding lives as one of the most honourable professions to do.
He urged teachers to develop a strong passion for the job adding that teaching remains the bedrock for all professions.
