…….Celebrate Oba Elegushi, Musiliu Smith
As 2023 general elections draw nearer, members of the Lagos state House of Assembly have urged Nigerians to support the presidential aspiration of the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that he has the capacity and technical know-how to steer the ship of Nigeria to greatness.
The Lawmakers described Tinubu as an enigma and a man of honour that should be celebrated and given an opportunity to serve the country as President based on his intellectual capacity and love for the people.
The House made the call through the Speaker of the House, Rt (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday during plenary session when lawmakers took turn to glowingly eulogise Tinubu on his 69th birthday.
Obasa said that the lawmakers believe strongly in Tinubu, adding that the National leader is the best man to preside over the affairs of the country in 2023.
“Asiwaju Tinubu is worth celebrating. We were on recess when Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu celebrated his birthday. Some of us were in Kano to attend the colloquium, where he was celebrated.
“I want all of us to align with those who have spoken about him and wish him long life and more good health.
“We are doing this because we have testimonies and belief in him. We have that conviction that he is the only man that can steer the ship of this country from 2023 as President. It is not about tribe or religion but competence and intellectual capacity,” he said.
Obasa stated that as a Muslim, he heard about Prophet Mohammed through his followers, but that he had never met him, adding that same goes for the Lord Jesus Christ, but that people believe in him because of his followers.
He stated that same goes for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging all Nigerians to rally round him in 2023.
Meanwhile, Hon. Victor Akande (Ojo 1), who kick-started the eulogy on Tinubu under personal explanation, said he is a man that has done well and served the people of the state to the best of his ability as Governor.
Akande described Tinubu as a political mathematician and an icon who has influenced a lot of personalities and produced several leaders.
While congratulating Asiwaju Tinubu, Hon. Rotimi Olowo (Somolu 1) said ” Tinubu is a man of foresight and highly resourceful. He is still waxing strong because of his encouragement of younger politicians and grooming of talents for leadership positions.
Olowo added ” Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has groomed many people including the current vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the former governor and Minister of Works, Mr Babatunde Fashola and the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. God will continue to strengthen him and whatever he lays his hand will become reality. Once again, happy birthday to Asiwaju”.
Speaking about Oba Saheed Elegushi’s birthday under personal explanation, Hon. Temtope Adewale, (Ifako/Ijaiye 1), said that the young monarch should be celebrated for his 45th birthday as a man that has also affected many lives as a traditional ruler.
” He is energetic, influential, social, philanthropic and resourceful king. This is a young king that has made us proud in Lagos state. He has been able to handle the cultural heritage well. I am using this opportunity to congratulate him and urge the House to kindly write a congratulatory letter to him”, said Adewale.
Also, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu,( Eti-Osa 2) said that the former Inspector General Police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, is a man of honour that should be celebrated for his selfless service to the country as a former top police officer.
However, Obasa said that he joined others in wishing the “young and handsome Kabiyesi well as he continues to play his roles as a royal father of repute.
“I wish him long life and prosperity and I pray that God will continue to use him to move Ikateland forward.
The Speaker stated that this was being done not because the Assembly had a personal relationship with the Oba, but that because they recognized him for his contributions to the development of the state and urged others to follow suit.
Obasa also praised Alhaji Musiliu Smith, and thanked God for his life as a man of honour and peace.
“Alhaji Musiliu Smith always calls us on phone to express his views and suggestions on issues affecting the state.
“We once invited him to our programme and he honoured it. I join others to celebrate him for his contributions to the development of the country,” he said.
Obasa, thereafter, directed the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko to write congratulatory letters to the three personalities.
