2023: Oyo SDP Denies Merger Talk With PDP

The Secretary, Social Democratic  Party (SDP), Oyo State Chapter, Chief Adeniyi Akande has debunked the news that the party is planning to merge with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Chief Akande said there is no truth in the story, adding that the SDP will swallow the PDP in the 2023 general elections.

According to him, the SDP has embarked on measures to put the party in a proper shape and perspective ahead of the general election, just as he assured the people that SDP will wax stronger before the election and emerge victorious.

Assessing governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in two years, the SDP scribe said he has done well in the areas of health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, roads and others, but needs to do more to improve the state.

Speaking on the security of the state and the recent attacks in Igangan area of Ibarapa land, chief Akande admonished the governor to incorporate local security outfit to curb the attacks and keep the state safe.

He said local security outfit like the Agbekoya, Odua Peoples Congress, Amotekun, Vigilantes are vibrant security outfit which should be saddled with the assigned of providing adequate security to the state.

“Governor Seyi Makinde should make it a  point of duty to incorporate and motivate these local security outfits to keep the state safe,” he said.

While condoling the Ashigangan of Igangan land and the people of the area, Chief Akande urged the governor to be up and doing on the security of the area and the state as a whole, adding that as a leader he ought to have seen the signal after the last problem which occurred in Igangan.

He sympathized with the governor and people of Igangan on the sudden attacks meted on them last Saturday, saying, it was high time the issue of state police be taken up, adding that only this would give state governors power to effectively make us of the police to address the issue of insecurity in their states.

Speaking on the recent local government election in the state, the astute politician described the exercise as a mere selection and not an election.

“Yes, it was a mere selection by the PDP, and does it mean that any other party could not win a seat or some seats at the exercise, that is why I described it as a mere selection,” he queried.

He said the SDP  will transform all sectors of the state  especially  the areas of security and robust economy if the party comes to power in 2023.
