….Plans To Register In Ilaro On Saturday
The Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Sen. Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) may be on his way out of Lagos politics to contest in Ogun for Senate as he plans to register in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership registration exercise, in his hometown, Ilaro, on Saturday
Sources close to the Senator, informed WESTERNPOST, that the two term Senator was initially in a state of dilemma over where to register between Alimosho and Ilaro because the party membership registration would go a long way in determining his political future.
The sources disclosed further that before he finally settled for Ilaro for his registration, Adeola (Yayi) had consulted widely on his next political move in Ogun West and that he had been able to lobby some key leaders of the district to his side ahead of 2023.
” Yayi is on his way to Ogun politics and he will contest for Senate in Ogun West. He is meeting with who is who in Yewa/Awori Axis frequently now. All youth groups and women associations are ready to queue behind him anytime anyday.
” We learnt Asiwaju Tinubu has openly told him to go and contest in Ogun and so he will be registering in Ilaro this weekend”, said the sources.
It was gathered that Adeola has begun to re-awake his campaign structure in Ogun West and reaching out to those who are undecided on which aspirant to support.
When asked about when Yayi will register for his party membership, his Special Adviser On Media, Mr Kayode Odunaro, said that the Senator was not in a hurry to register since the exercise would end in February 23, saying that he was worried about why people wants to know where and when Yayi will register.
” The registration exercise has not ended. I don’t know why people are keen about where and when Senator will register. Although, he has not told me when he will register but I know he will definitely register before the end of the exercise”, said Odunaro.
In Lagos, Adeola, who has been representing Lagos West since 2015, is at loggerhead with some power brokers within the district who are bent on relegating him politically. This has divided the party members and leaders across the 26 Local governments and LCDAs of the district.
Since 2019, the APC in Lagos West had been in one crisis or the other which was linked to the supremacy battle between the camp of the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa and the camp of Sen. Adeola (Yayi).
The supremacy battle between the two camps is believed to have been fuelled by the speculation that Obasa wants to replace Yayi in 2023 as Lagos West Senator.
One of the Lagos APC Chieftains who spoke with our correspondent in anonymity, said the sudden spread of the political movement of Obasa (The Obasa Movement) across the 26 Local governments rattled Yayi and so created panic in his camp.
The party chieftain said the ticket of the party for Lagos West will be opened to all aspirants regardless of tribe, age or financial warchest, saying that it was too early for any politician to start mobilisation.
