An Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo has ordered that a 23-year-old female housemaid, Olayemi Lawrence, be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre for alleged stealing and attempt to kidnap her boss, Chief Eunice Fateye.
Olayemi was arraigned on a five-count bothering on conspiracy, burglary, stealing, attempted arson and attempted kidnap.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that Olayemi, in December 2020 in Ilesa – Ijesha, entered the residence of Fateye and stole mobile phones valued at N150, 000.
Fagboyinbo also alleged that the defendant stole an ATM card belonging to the woman and withdrew a sum of N305, 000 from her account.
The Prosecutor also informed the court that Olayemi threatened to raze the house of her boss if she refused to send her a sum of N500, 000, adding that Olayemi also sent threat messages to her.
The offences, according to Fagboyinbo were contrary to and punishable under sections 410 and 390( 9) of the Criminal Code Cap . 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State 2002.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.
The counsel for the defendant, Mr. Nagite Okobe, prayed the court to grant her bail on most liberal term assuring the Magistrate that she has reliable sureties and willing to stand her trial.
The prosecutor, opposed the bail stating that she will jump bail if granted and that the life of the complainant who is her boss will be in danger because the agents of the defendant have been threatening the life of Chief Faleye.
The Magistrate, Mr Adebayo Ajala transferred the matter to Ibokun Magistrates’ Court on the ground that the alleged offence was committed in that jurisdiction.
He ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesa Correctional centre and adjourned the matter to Monday, January 18, 2021, for fresh arraignment.
