The panel of inquiry set up by the Oyo State Government to investigate the fire incident at Igbajo Plank Market, Sango last year on Tuesday submitted it’s report to the State Government.
Chairman of the panel, Mr. Adetunji Gbadegesin, presented the report of the panel to the Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, at the EXCO Chambers, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Tragedy had struck on December 25, 2015 amid the yuletide celebration when the popular plank market at Sango was gutted.
The situation became worse as exactly three days after, precisely on the 28th, there was another fire outbreak at the same plank market.
These incidents, which was in quick succession, became an issue of concern to the traders at the market as well as the State Government.
As a result, Governor Abiola Ajimobi set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the fire cases with a view to ascertaining the level of damage done, cause of the incidents and possible measures to forestall future occurrence.
Chairman of the Panel, Gbadegesin, said the panel had concluded investigations and handed over a three-volume document to the Deputy Governor.
Gbadegesin explained that the first volume contained the cause and level of damage of the incidents, while the second and third volumes contained memorandums, briefs and verbatim documents of the sittings of the panel.
Responding, the Deputy Governor, Adeyemo said government would look into the report and necessary measures would be taken.
Adeyemo said the State Government had concluded plans to reinforce the state fire service in a bid to forestall any further fire outbreak.
He appealed to the people of the state and Nigerians to have a change of attitude towards the use of electricity and other fire-aided appliances.
