A fresh suicide bomb attack occurred again on Wednesday morning in Maiduguri, Borno State as two female bearers of improvised explosive device launched attacks on Ummarari village near Molai in the outskirts of the metropolis.
22 persons were killed while 18 others were injured.
The first attack was targeted at a mosque where Muslim faithful had gathered for early morning prayers, while the second blast occurred a few minutes later at about 50 metres away.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, who confirmed the bomb attack said troops, security agents and care givers have been mobilized to the scene, while the wounded have been evacuated to Molai General Hospital for treatment.
He said in a statement that soldiers alongside other security agents and the Civilian Joint Task Force have secured the area and are combing the environment for possible clues.
While sympathizing with families of the victims of the dastardly act, the Army spokesman reassured the public that “we would continue to rout the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists wherever they may be hiding. We will not rest on our oars until all those that masterminded this latest heinous and other similar crimes are apprehended and brought to justice.
“Meanwhile, we implore the members of the public to be more security conscious, cooperate with the troops and security agencies. They should also please report any suspicious persons, objects or happenings to troops or security agencies at all times,” he stated.
