A 47-year-old man, Olabode Olusegun has been remanded in police custody as ordered by an Akure Magistrate court for beating his pregnant wife to death.
Olabode was dragged by men of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) command for murder before the court on Wednesday.
According to the prosecution, he was alleged to have beaten up his pregnant wife identified as Mrs Blessing Adeze Olubode by hitting her on the abdomen which resulted in her untimely death and that of the unborn child.
The prosecutor Inspector, Ulor Goodluck informed the court that the case was a case of murder and urged the court to remand the accused in police custody pending the advice from the office of the Director for Public Prosecution (DPP) in the state ministry of justice.
Counsel to the accused person, A. Okolike did not oppose the remand application made by the prosecutor base on the gravity of the offense alleged to have committed.
The presiding Officer, N. T Aladejana ordered that the accused be remanded in the police custody pending the outcome of legal advice from DPP.
The case was later adjourned till September 8.
