The Lagos State House of Assembly has initiated an amendment to the Electoral law ahead of Saturday’s Local Government Election.
It is a crucial amendment which will give parties some more time to make changes to their candidates list.
In the case of the governing All Progressives Congress in the state, it will enable it deal with the lingering complaints in some quarters after the party’s primaries.
The primaries were done largely done through the consensus arrangement, indirect primaries.
The bill is at present waiting for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s assent.
The two-fold bill states as follows:
A political party can withdraw and substitute candidate not later than three (3) days to LASIEC verification.
Any candidate can withdraw from contesting not later than three (3) days to the election by personally taking a letter of withdrawal to the state secretary of the party involved and the secretary must personally take the letter to LASIEC not later than 12noon, three (3) days to the election.
