The Ogun State Government has again reunited 22 additional Libyan returnees with members of their respective families.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Bolaji Oyeleye, who welcomed the returnees at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, disclosed that the returnees comprised 19 females, one male and two children, adding that, the State Governor had approved a token to facilitate transportation to their various destinations.

He recalled that the State had in January, received 64 returnees from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and reunited them with their relatives, adding that, government would ensure that the fresh returnees are safely reunited with their love ones as well.

The Commissioner, through his Press Officer, Mr. Goke Gbadamosi, expressed optimism that the lessons learned by the returnees would deter other youths from trying to cross to Europe at all cost.

‘’We are happy that the returnees have been brought back safely. As you can see, most of them are being welcomed by their relatives whom we had earlier contacted to come and receive them. This is the second batch and as you know, we received 64 of our people earlier in January.  We hope to continue with this process until all our people have been safely returned from Libya,’’ he said.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Kunle Osota, while thanking God for sparing the lives of the returnees, assured that they would be well-rehabilitated and properly re-integrated into the society,

He advised the returnees to be part of Nigeria’s positive evolution, adding that, it is also essential that they contribute their quota to building the nation.

One of the returnees, Miss Christiana Olatoye, described her experience and those of several others as harrowing, saying that, the evacuation exercise had shown that the Federal and State governments cared about the safety of Nigerians abroad.
