A 73-year-old man, Mr. Abraham Aladura has reportedly slumped and died while on his way to Ala Area Police Command Headquarters in Oba-Ile in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State.

Westernpost gathered that the deceased was on his way to the police station in company of two police officers before the incident happened.

Taiwo, one of the children of the late Aladura, who was later arrested, and detained for questioning the authority of the police to arrest his father, said the deceased was invited by the police, following a complaint lodged by one of his tenants, Mr Dayo Shedu, an okada rider.

The tenant, who was owing the octogenarian one and half years house rent, was reported to have contacted the police after the deceased locked his apartment over non-payment of rent.

It was gathered that the man returned from the market and met two policewomen in his house who told him that he would be needed for questioning over the issue.

Taiwo, one of the aides to Deji of Akure, told Westernpost that his father pleaded with the police to allow him take a cup of water before going with them, but the officers refused him.

“So, on their way to the station, he requested that he wanted to urinate. After urinating, he slumped. The okada man and the police that came to arrest him took to their heels.

“He was rushed to Oba-ile clinic where he was confirmed dead.

“As at this moment, we can’t find the tenant and his wife as they have packed all their belongings away the house,” he said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Fumilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident, said the man did not die in the police net, but on his way to the police station after being invited.
