The secretary of the 75 Obas, upgraded by the Ibikunle Amosun-led administration in Ogun State, His Royal Highness, Oba Tanimowo Folarin, Olu of Ipebi Ijebu Mushin, has said that the issues involved in the downgrading of one of them does not affect the 74 others.

This, he said, is because the issue is current a subject of litigation with a court ruling that the status quo must be maintained for now.

It would be recalled that the Kemta Traditional Council of Chiefs in Odede Local Government said that the upgrading of Oba Adetokunbo Tejuoso as the Olu of Kemta Agnonyin by Amosun was done without consultation with the Council.

The Kemta Council of Chiefs was reacting to the arrest of Oba Tejuoso by the police based on allegation of internet fraud.

The Council of Chiefs therefore said that apart from the fact that Oba Tejuoso has seized being their traditional ruler, the status quo existing before the upgrade must remain.

But Oba Folarin, in his reaction said he was surprised to read the news published by some concerned editors in respect of Oba Tejuosho.

He said, while talking about status quo, editors should have taken their time to do some preliminary researches or consult a legal practitioner on the subject before grossly misleading the general public.

The monarch said: “The fact remains that whoever is beaten feels the pain. Kemta traditional chiefs have the right to take any decisions regarding their community and their subjects. But this publication came with an issue that gave me much food for taught

“On that the 23rd of June 2020, Hon. Justice A .A Akinyemi  of Ogun State High court, Courtroom 4, Abeokuta, gave a ruling on the 75 Coronet Obas that status quo be maintained by both parties in this case.

“Therefore, status quo, therefore, is the position of things before the revocation. And revocation was done on the 6th of February 2020.

“The status quo, therefore, is the position of things as at 5th February, 2020. The concerned 75 Obas were appointed on the 13th May 2019.

“Therefore, status quo means they still remain a recognized Oba till date pending the determination of the suit.

“I wouldn’t have responded to your publication of the action of Kemta Traditional of Chiefs concerning Adetokunbo Tejuosho but for the issue of status quo concerned the entire 75 Coronet Obas.”
