The Oyo State Police Command has lunched Operation Puff Adder to combat crimes and criminal activities in the state.
Addressing Journalists on the development at the police command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan the state Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu said this was in line with the directives of Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammed Abubakar Adamu.
According to the police commissioner, the IG directive is that every state replicate the launch of the operation code named (Puff Adder) to ensure that criminal elements are flushed out of the society and Oyo State in general.
He said the warning became imperative because the Nigerian society has continually looked on to the police to effectively deal with crime in the land adding that the ideas of about how they should go about it varies, notwithstanding, the police must discharge their responsibility with utmost professionally.
“The police therefore as Professional body must continually restrategise and ensure more result oriented tactise employed to combat crime.
“Today, there appears to be unwelcome high profile crime such as kidnapping, assasination, armed robbery, farmers and hersdmen clash, cattle rustlers and other related crimes. These crimes are giving the police high command great concer.”
The CP, Olukolu after the lunch decorated a total of 155 police officers who were recently promoted to the next level.
The apparently happy officers who filed out one after the other to get decorated were admonished by CP Olulolu to exhibit professionality in the course of their duty, just as he reminded them that to whom much is given, much is expected.
While also remindng them of their responsibility, the police boss warned the men and officers of the command against the misuse of firearms or weapon by any member of the state police Comand as stiffer penalty awaits any officer found to have misused such weapons on the citizens.
