Oyo 8th Assembly Winds Down Activities, as Members Recount Achievements, Ordeals

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Olagunju Ojo has admonished electorate in the state not to leave politics for political office holders alone in order to ensure that government appointees are held accountable for their deeds and actions, saying this would guarantee dividends of democracy to the people.
The Speaker gave the admonition during the valedictory sitting marking the  last plenary for the  eighth Oyo State House on Friday.
According to him, the Eight Assembly was committed to developmental programmes for the state since it was inaugurated on June 10, 2015, adding that the valedictory sitting called for  bountiful thanks and  appreciation to God Almighty.
“The journey has not been all that smooth, there had been some challenges and hiccups which were surmounted, adding that the doggedness and unity among members had sustained the Assembly.”
Hon Ojo recalled that during the course of the 8th Assembly, two members of the House were lost, Hon Gideon Aremu Oorelope consttuency July 1st, 2016  and the then Speaker, Hon Micheal Adeyemo from Ibarapa East constituency, April 27.2017.
Hon Ojo said in the performace of the Assembly the House considered 87 bills out of which 70 have been passed into law while 17 are under processing.
Said he: “We were  proactive and visionary in our actions hence, we were able to enact laws that addressed the challenges within the state in the aspect of security, health, education, Environment, Works and Transport, Housing and Ecology to mention a few.”
He said such laws include Oyo State Kidnapping (Prohibition) Law 2015, Oyo State Education Trust Fund Law 2016, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency Law, 2016, Smoking Regulation Law, 2016 among others.
In constituency empowerment programme, he said members engaged in several and  diverse programmes such as sponsoring youths in learning of some trades and provision of working  tools for them.
The Speaker said members in their various committees during inspections and monitoring of projects at  oversight functions performed well, thus, addressing some areas where there were discrepancies and deviations.
Hon Ojo the charged the members of the 9th Assembly to start from where they stopped in order to move the state forward.
Members of the Assembly who spoke during the sitting thanked God for the grace and success they achieved in the course of the Eight Assembly.
They also expressed gratitude to one another for the understanding, love, patience, perseverance and  unity which helped them till the end.
