The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu has said the partnership between Legislators and the Executive arm of government has brought about significant progress in governance.
Salihu stated this while delivering his address the second year anniversary of the Assembly.
“As partners in progress with the Executive arm, the resolutions of this House since assumption of office have assisted in very significant ways in reshaping governance in the State,” Salihu said.
He disclosed that the House was able to pass 14 Bills while 32 motions were moved with resolutions passed on it in the past two years.
“We have always adhered to Rule of Law in strict observance of the principles of transparency, equity and accountability that are hallmarks of this Assembly.
“Without appearing to be blowing one’s own trumpet but rather for record purposes, it is pertinent, at this juncture, to state that this 9th Assembly under my leadership has, as of today, considered a total number of 29 reports.
“I make bold to say that no report presented on the floor of the House ever ended up on the shelves. They are rather the ones that generated robust debates among Hon. Members on the floor and on which resolutions were forwarded to appropriate quarters for actions,” the Speaker added.
He noted the 9th Assembly since assumption of office in 2019 has not wavered in the discharge of these roles.
“We did not leave provision of infrastructure solely in the hands of the Executive as we facilitated in our various constituencies, construction of classrooms and health facilities, sinking of boreholes, opening of rural roads etc., under the Grassroots Development Project, an initiative of the present administration in the state that commenced in 2020.
“All the projects under this initiative have been completed and delivered for the use of our people.
“We give God all the glory. I must admit that the feats recorded by this 9th Legislature in the last two years in office are as result of the dedication, loyalty and zeal of the management and staff of this Assembly under the Clerk,” Salihu noted.
