Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is making moves to appeal the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, Imo State capital, which quashed his election earlier on Thursday.
The appellate court had declared Mr. Alex Otti, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the Abia State Governorship election and ordered that Otti be sworn in immediately. Otti is former Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc.
The Court of Appeal had nullified the ruling of the Abia State Election Petitions Tribunal which earlier upheld the declaration of Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as winner of the election.
The nullification of Ikpeazu’s election was hinged on the returns in three local governments, which the appellate court had declared inflated.
Otti’s victory at the court sent the state into an orgy of jubilation but counsel to Governor Ikpeazu said they were studying the judgment with a view to challenging it at the Supreme Court.
