In a move to enhance students’ and teachers’ performances, a professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Professor Isaac Adegun has urged the federal government to install Air Conditioning (AC) machines in classrooms across the country.
He also said the federal government should declare a state of emergency on engineering research and development, tasking faculties of Engineering to come up with more solutions-oriented products.
Adegun made this appeal while delivering the 193rd Inaugural lecture tagged “God the creator, man the manipulator: the journey so far in Engineering manipulation of fluids and geometries for human life” held at the University auditorium on Thursday.
He urged the federal government to identify with some engineering products being produced locally whose importation should be summarily stopped.
He said, “For effective performance of students and teachers, lecture rooms should be Air-Conditioned.
“Since there is no gain without pain, as the federal government did for rice by stopping its importation into the country, the federal government should also identify some engineering products being produced locally whose importation should be summarily stopped.
“For example, importation of tiles, upholsteries and even some vehicular component parts should stop; go to Aba and see wonders.
“We must be compelled to patronize the local engineering products,” he said.
The Don said oil which gives about 90per cent of the country’s foreign exchange is a fluids, stressing on the need for it to be judiciously manipulated for development of our nation.
He enjoined the University of Ilorin to establish a Center for Advanced Modelling and Simulation for Systems’ analyses.
Adegun tasked Nigerians to be mindful of what they eat, drink and what they do, so as to avoid unduly and unnecessarily protrude tummy.
Adegun urged Nigerians to maximally use the air around them as the usage could make or Mar their lives.
“The way we use the air around us can make or Mar our life. Do not pollute the air around you because it is dangerous for your health and can reduce your productivity,” he added.
