Accord Elders Threaten Reprisal over Murder of Members

The Ibadanland Accord Elders have frowned on and threatened to engage in reprisal if the attack on its member continues.

The Elders in a release jointly signed by its chairman, Prince Tunji Adeoye and scribe, Toyese Oladejo described the act as barbaric and a calculated attempt to set the state on fire.

Three members of the party were gruesomely murdered with scores sustaining varying degrees of injuries during an attack on its members by hired political thugs alleged to be sponsored by the ruling the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state last Sunday in Ibadan.

The Elders regretted that the APC had shown a high degree of intolerance in spite of its glaring failures in government in the last four years.

They alleged that it was a grand design of the party to use men of the state drivers’ union to intimidate and harass the opposition and innocent voters. It declared that it was because of this that the APC was campaigning against the deployment of soldiers to provide security at voting centres.

The Accord Elders insisted that no party has the monopoly of violence, adding that members of the party may be forced to engage in self help if the attack continues.

They lauded the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Katsina and the officers in charge of the state Anti-robbery Squad and Skynet for taking prompt action and the arrest of culprits.

The Ibadanland Accord Elders, however, admonished its members to keep calm while calling on the police to get to the root of the attack and arrest their sponsors. They also called on the electorate to be resolute in their determination to vote massively for Accord in all elections in the state to return hopes and happiness in residents of the state.
