From Temitope Adedeji in Akure
The Alliance for Democracy (AD) has rejected the candidature of Chief Olusola Oke as its governorship candidate in the Nov. 26 election in Ondo State.
In a communique at the weekend at Ade Super Hotel, Akure read by the National Organising Secretary of the party, Mr. Ibrahim Abdollah, AD said its National Working Committee (NEC )was not aware of Oke’s candidature.
WESTERN POST reports that the meeting was presided over by AD Deputy National Chairman, Malam Musa Sheu Loyi, and attended by some state chairmen along with other national officers.
The communique said the NEC, National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees of the party were not carried along in the emergence of Oke as the party’s candidate.
The communique states as follows:
“That Chief Olusola Oke is hereby not adopted as the flag bearer of AD in the Nov. 26 gubernatorial election.
“And that vote of no confidence is passed on the National Chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi; National Secretary, Mr. Akin Fasogbon; National Auditor, Mr Ismaeel Ayodele, and South-west Zonal Chairman, Chief Tayo Onayemi”.
According to the communique, the officers’ action contradicted the party’s constitution, stating that the officers lacked the power to usurp the power of the party’s NEC.
It ordered the national chairman and the secretary to convene the NEC meeting in Abuja within 21 days with effect from Oct. 14.
It added that a 5-member committee should be set up to recommend to the party the next line of action, whether to adopt a candidate of another party or otherwise.
