The Minister of State for Works, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, on Tuesday described Chief Hannah Awolowo, the matriarch of Awolowo family, as the “conscience and Oodua nation.”
Adeyeye stated this in a congratulatory message to Awolowo on her 99th birthday which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said; “Mama is a pride to those of us who are real disciples of Baba Awolowo. She is a pride to the entire Yoruba race.
“She is more than a jewel to us and we shall continue to hold her in very high esteem.
“Her untiring efforts at building and sustaining the unity of the Yoruba nation and ensuring its worthy pride of place within the context of Nigeria’s federal structure are commendable.
“No doubt, Chief Obafemi Awolowo will be happy that he left behind a worthy matriarch, who has remained a jewel of inestimable value to the entire Yoruba race and Nigeria in general.
“Therefore, as we all celebrate the attainment of 99 years by this worthy mother of the nation of Oodua, I wish Mama a most glorious 99th birthday anniversary.”
