Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, recently stated that the Aare Ona Kakanfo is greater than the title of a chief.
The eminent lawyer, who is also the Founder and President of the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, also congratulated the National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Chief Gani Adams, recently chosen as the 15th occupier of the position by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
A statement by the Director of Media and Communications to the Aare Ona Kakanfo-designate, Mr. Femi Adepoju, quoted Babalola as saying this during the 1st South-West Stakeholders Summit held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Babalola also expressed support for Adams.
Babalola was quoted as saying, “Aare is higher than a chief. I was the one who fought for the installation of the late Chief MKO Abiola when Ooni of Ife didn’t want him to become Aare Ona Kakanfo.
“After that, I was made Aare of Yorubaland in Law by Alaafin, so I am not at war with the new Aare Ona Kakanfo.”
The statement also quoted Adams as saying many governments in the country were creating conflicts in the education sector of many states.
He noted that the development was a great challenge and it was vital to “get the economy right so that the education sector can be what it should be.
