NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, was full of praises for the Supersand Eagles, who finished in third place at the just-concluded 2015 African Beach Soccer Championship in Seychelles.
Nigeria lost in overtime (3-4) to Senegal in Saturday’s semi-final, a result which means the two-time African champions will not participate at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Portugal later this year.
However, Audu Adamu Ejo’s team were able to pick up bronze, with an emphatic 9-1 thrashing of Ivory Coast on Sunday.
“We refuse to condemn the team. They put in their best effort each time they went on the beach and they certainly wore the green-white-green with passion and pride,” Sanusi said in Abuja on Monday.
“Yes, they narrowly missed qualification for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. But we have to commend them for their effort and the fact that they gave it their all.
“I believe that their performance has done much to boost the efforts we are making to start a Beach Soccer League in Nigeria.”
The Nigerian delegation to the championship is expected back in the country on Wednesday.
