The Permanent Secretary, ministry of works and Transport, Dr Yusuf Manjo has called on residents of Mubo street, neighbouring community at Asa river to vacate their houses to avert further loss of lives occasioned by incessant flooding in the area.
He made the call during a rescue mission by men of the state Fire Service at Evangelical Yehwah Church, Ilorin where worshippers were trapped by raging flood, yesterday.
The Firemen swung into action following Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s unscheduled visit to the area and his immediate directives to the Fire service to rescue the worshippers.
The firemen successfully rescued all the worshippers from drowning.
At the end of the rescue mission, the worshippers at the church under the leadership of Prophetess Abimbola commended the Governor for his rapid response and also thanked the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Dr. Yusuf Garuba Manjo and the Firemen for the rescue mission.
The Director, State Fire Service, Alhaji Iyanda Yakub Waheed while addressing the residents around the riverbank in ilorin metropolis to be vigilant and imbibe safety culture as their way of life in order to prevent further loss of lives.
He urged the residents to protect themselves by vacating the flood prone areas during this raining season .
