Men of the Nigerian Air Force have launched an aerial bombardment of some parts of Ikorodu in a bid to nab militants breaking pipelines and destroying the peace of the area.
The bombing and bombardment of the area began on Thursday and was still on by Sunday night.
The area badly hit is Ikorodu West, which harbours some communities leading to Arepo by sea, where the pipelines are located.
Sources said none of the militants has been arrested since the operation began.
Residents of the area have been running helter-skelter since the operation began. Some of them have abandoned their houses and places they have lived for years.
One security operative said the operation was targeted at Ijaw militants breaking pipelines in the area and causing confusion, but he did not rule out the collateral damage the operation may also create for residents of the area.
The peace of some riverine communities in Ikorodu and Igando in Lagos has been broken in recent times by Ijaw militants breaking pipelines and siphoning petrol.
