Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has extolled the qualities of the late APC chieftain, Alhaja Ramonta Balogun, describing her as “a very unique politician.”
The governor spoke at the fidau prayer for the late politician in Iseyin, Oyo State, on Saturday.
He urged politicians to cultivate the habit of selfless service as demonstrated by the late Balogun during her lifetime.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late politician died on May 30 at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, after a protracted illness.
Ajimobi further said: “I met her about 10 years ago and I can say without mincing words that she is the best politician I have ever met in my political career.
“How do you want to describe a woman who you will give money and spend all the money on the people of our community; she will even exceed what is given to her.
“She worked tirelessly before I emerged and there was no way I will ever forget that.
“After the election, I asked her what she wanted and she said all she wanted was for us to help develop her Iseyin community with a six-lane road which we have now completed.
“She nominated the commissioners from Iseyin and some other members of our cabinet; as a sign of respect; we started the six-lane road we are constructing across Oke-Ogun in Iseyin as she requested.
“She had never for once asked me for money or any other personal favour; she was such a selfless person, highly committed to her people,’’ he said.
Ajimobi, who led all other members of the State Executive Council other government functionaries to the venue prayed for the repose of her soul.
Speaking earlier, a cleric, Alhaji Raimi Amusa, said it was important for all human beings to remember the last day at all times and in all circumstances.
He said that this would ease the craze for acquisition of wealth and other mundane things.
