Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has faulted the claim by a former of governor Rashidi Ladoja that he spent N5 billion on his re-election bid in the last April governorship poll in the state, describing the insinuation as a product of hallucination of a ‘confused politician’.
Ajimobi, in a press release made available through the APC’s spokesperson in the state, Mr. Olawale Sadare, stated that the rules on election spending were strictly adhered to by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state during the last elections in which people of the state gave the governor the mandate to continue his good work in office.
According to the release, any insinuation to the contrary was just a figment of the imagination and a deceitful allegation.
“Having put the historic election, which is unprecedented in the political annals of Oyo State behind, His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, is now working hard continuing his administration’s delivery of the benefit of continuity and good governance to the electorate.
“No doubt, this reckless allegation by Senator Ladoja and his cohorts, will not distract the people’s governor from fulfilling his pact with the entire citizenry of Oyo State”.
The former governor was, however, advised to behave as a statesman who needed to concede defeat and also to be conscious of the reality on ground that another election is in the next four years, adding that the era of politicking has gone.
Ladoja who contested the governorship poll on Accord platform had during the just-ended Eid-el-Fitr festival alleged that Gov. Ajimobi spent N5 billion on his re-election bid.
He was speaking with some journalist in Ibadan. Ladoja is at present challenging Ajimobi’s election at the tribunal.
