Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Tuesday inaugurated another set of 10 new patrol vehicles for the use of the state security outfit code-named Operation Burst as part of his administration’s continued efforts towards the provision of adequate security to lives and property in the state.

The governor, while performing the inauguration ceremony at the Governor’s Office Car Park, said the patrol vehicles were aimed at fortifying the activities of Operation Burst in combating crimes and criminality in the state.

The vehicles were purchased by the state Security Trust Fund headed by Dr. Olatunde Ayeni, who is also the Chairman of Skye Bank.

Governor Ajimobi expressed serious concern over the security situation in the country, saying there was the need for all Nigerians to be security conscious and that state governments should also accord priority to security in their various states.

He said that looking at the array of unrest, violence and brigandage happening all over the place as well as the activities of insurgents in the country, Nigerians should be watchful and cooperate with security agencies in instilling sanity.

He charged the people of the state in particular to cooperate with government and all security agencies by providing necessary information that would help in curbing criminal activities.

According to him, buildings and vehicles that had been abandoned for a very long time, bushy areas that had not been attended for a long time, as well as crowded areas could pose security threat.

The Governor noted that the decision to add more patrol vehicles to the fleet of the Operation Burst was informed by the level of insecurity in the country, stressing that all steps must be taken protect lives and property of the people of the state .

He also used the opportunity to call on the entire citizens of the state to be vigilant and report to security agents any unusual movement of people around any abandoned building or bushy areas.

He admonished the people to avoid street trading and unnecessary crowding to forestall the machinations of evil doers.

The Chairman of the Trust Fund, Dr. Ayeni said the provision of the operational vehicles would contribute immensely towards the reduction of crimes in the state.

Dr. Ayeni said the trust fund, which is a public and private participation arrangement, donated the vehicles to compliment government’s effort towards fortifying the state against criminal activities.

He said Oyo state is now more friendly and very attractive for foreign investment due to the bold steps taken by Governor Ajimobi on security of lives and property.

He emphasized the importance of private participation in the provision of adequate security stressing that Government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of security in the state.

In his remarks, the special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mr Segun Abolarinwa, said the state security outfit code named Operation Burst had assisted the state in reducing its criminal activities.

Members of the Operation Burst Team later had a parade to the admiration of Governor Ajimobi and members of the state executive council.

Present at the occasion were the Commander of Operation Burst, Brig.-Gen. Laz Ilo, service chiefs and members of the State Executive Council.
