Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has requested for the approval of the state House of Assembly for a reduction in the number of ministries in the state from the current twenty 23 to 13.
The governor made the request through a letter he sent to the House, which was read by the Speaker, Hon. Michael Adeyemo during the House plenary on Tuesday.
The speaker, while reading the letter, said the governor was seeking the approval of the House for a bill to establish the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Law 2015, Ministry of Trade Industry, Investment and Co-operatives Law 2015 and Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Law 2015.
Others are a law to repeal some existing laws in Oyo State and Other Matters Therein 2015 and the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Urban Development Law 2015.
The governor’s request if acceded to by the House would give the governor the legal backing to prune down the existing twenty three ministries in the state to thirteen.
The decision, according to the governor, became imperative owing to the economic situation in the country which he said, called for a serious rethink.
