The ancient city of Ibadan on Thursday stood still for the Labour Party governorship candidate in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, as thousands of his enthusiastic supporters trooped out in large numbers to show their solidarity for him in his bid to get re-elected as governor of the state.
The carnival-like event, which took place at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan, witnessed a large turn out of party stalwarts and supporters who converged on the venue to present the party’s flag to him as the governorship standard bearer.
Speaking at the occasion, Akala reiterated his avowed commitment to do more if elected as governor of the state in all sectors of the economy in order to put smiles on the faces of residents of the state.
He said the present administration in the state had shown ineptitude, lack of human face and gross mismanagement of state’s resources, which he said led to irregular payment of salaries, pensions and unreliable health care system.
Akala said his sojourn in Labour Party is purely divine and ordained by God, adding that the desire to be in the governorship race was the actualization of the wishes of people of the state to liberate them from the shackles of poverty, mis-governance, lies and oppression.
The LP governorship candidate said he would liberate the people of the state from all forms of oppression being witnessed in the hands of the current administration.
Akala highlighted his administration’s agenda, which included providing good governance, sustainable environment, poverty alleviation, industrialization, employment opportunities, infrastructural regeneration, international trade, water supply, intensive agriculture system, partnership, education and security.
He said he would pursue the implementation of the 13-point agenda with renewed zeal and determination.
He recalled that his administration recorded unprecedented achievements in all areas of human endeavours in various sectors of the state’s economy leading to many awards from organizations both within and outside the country.
Akala also used the medium to canvass votes for President Goodluck Jonathan in Saturday’s poll, while urging people of the state to vote enmasse for the candidates of LP during the elections.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Director-General of Akala/Alli Campaign Organization, Dr. Kola Balogun recalled that Akala’s administration provided the much-needed leadership and moral courage, which ensured that market men and women, artisans, mechanics, newspaper vendors, commercial motorcyclists were not driven away from their selling points without providing suitable alternative selling points for them.
