Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala has said that he is recontesting for the office of governor in the election with a rescue mission to reposition the state for the betterment of the people and investors.
Otunba Alao Akala made the point in an address he delivered at the official presentation of Alao Akala and professor Abideen Olaiya as ADP governorship and deputy governorship candidates for 2019 gubernatorial election and official inauguration of Akala Olaiya Campaign Organisation held on Tuesday at Jogor center, Ibadan.
He said, “My heart aches because 90% of outgoing government policies, programmes and projects are best described as anti-people which leave the people in pain and despondency. Instead of critising them, I made myself available to guide the incumbent government on how best to run proactive and pro people governance but the driver lacks the required goodwill.”
Otunba Akala who was governor of the state between 2007 and 2011 said he responded to Oyo state patriots clarion call on the 4th of July 2018 to contest the 2019 governorship election so that succour, humane posture, robust economic activities, even and equitable infrastructural development that were once entrenched in governance of the state during his past tenure could be repeated and improved upon with renewed vigor.
“Today’s historic occasion provides me another opportunity to officially answer the lingering question as to why Alao Akala is contesting again for the seat of governor of Oyo State in the forthcoming 2019 elections. As a bonafide citizen, I am seeking another opportunity to govern the state from May 29th 2019 with a rescue mission to reposition the state for the betterment of our people.
“We do not need a learner or experimental governor, leadership is by example, I and my running mate, professor Abideen Olaiya have credible antecedents. This team will be complemented by other experienced and eminently qualified party members who shall be vying for position in the National and state Houses of Assembly”.
Otunba Alao Akala said upon his victory in 2019, they would hit the ground running by declaring state of emergencies in the education and health sectors of the state adding that our dying Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), the polytechnic Ibadan and other state owned tertiary Institutions would be rescued.
The ex-Governor while urging the candidates to stretch hands of love and comradeship to other aspirants with whom they contested the party’s ticket said they are passionate about delivering result that would have positive impacts on the people.
Otunba Alao Akala said information reaching them is that some bad eggs in the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) are conniving with the ruling APC to disenfranchise thousand of voters across the state and weakening the leading opposition candidates in their stronghold by engaging in state wide illegal relocation of voters in the election.
He then called for cooperation among members of the party to work together in order to be victorious in the election.
