As part of the activities marking 2019 international women’s day, the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in conjunction with office of the wife of the Governor, has organized a lecture at the Babafunke Ajasin Auditorium, Igbatoro Road, Akure, the State capital, to mark the year’s anniversary of the women day, tagged; “#Balance For Better.”In her address, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Betty Anyeawu Akeredolu, said this year’s anniversary is dedicated to advancing gender equality all over the world. She encouraged women all over the world to increase their potentialities and doggedness so as to harness the God’s given talents.
Akeredolu, who emphasized on the fact that though gender equality is a great catalyst for sustainable development, but women continue to live as second class citizens in a male dominated Nigeria. She said further that, Little wonder the country has not made substantial progress in national development.
She later suggested that the end will not come to this lopsidedness, if conscious efforts are not made towards empowering women.
“To change this undesirable narrative, conscientious efforts must be made towards empowering women. The empowerment of our women cannot be left to chance,” she said.
Meanwhile, the guest Lecturer, Professor Mrs Olayinka Ogunsuyi said there is need for” Balance Better” advocacy for women, is adopted for the collective reflection ,action plans and implementation.
However, she said consequent upon a deep reflection on the fundamental meaning of the theme and its enormous importance to national development and later simplified the theme through a lecture titled: “Inspiring Women For Greater Inclusion”.
