The Alaapini of Oyo, Chief Ibrahim Oladeji, who is one of the Oyomesi, the Oyo kingmakers, has passed on. Oladeji died during the week after a brief illness in one of the hospitals in the ancient Oyo town.
According to sources, Oladeji was said to have been sick for some time now but he lost the battle as he could no longer respond to treatment anymore.
The nature of his illness is yet unclear. When WESTERN POST Correspondent visited the palace of Alaapini on Friday, his family members, relations and friends were in a mournful mood and none of them was ready to volunteer comments about his death.
This is the third Alaapini to have died at a relatively young age, without living long on the throne. Oladeji was installed three years ago.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and other Oyomesis have since sent their condolence messages to the family. Oladeji has been buried according to Islamic rites.
