Lagos State prides hersel f as Nigeria’s centre of excellence and from its rating both in and outside Nigeria, almost 80 percent of Nigeria’s revenue from the entertainment industry is generated from Lagos alone because it is the commercial nerve centre of the country, nay West Africa. Lagos has hosted many international shows or continental events, no wonder the state government is moving in decisively into this through the one Lagos Fiesta.
For many who don’t know what the One Lagos Brand stand for or is not conversant with the brand, here is some briefing: this is the brand the Lagos State Government under the administration of Mr. Akinwumi Ambode recently launched to drive the tourism, arts and culture potentials of the state, an inclusive idea for every Lagosian. From Alimosho to Badagry to Epe, every nook and cranny in Lagos will feel the One Lagos Brand before the state turns 50 in May 2017. Lagosians will not need to travel far for relaxation or to taste the beauty of Lagos.
During the launch of the brand, which took place in July at the Lagos Bar Beach, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos State, speaking at an international press conference organised for the event, disclosed that the next One Lagos Brand might jet off to Badagry, the home of Nigeria’s historical heritage. And indeed in the month of July, Badagry was host to Governor Ambode’s fourth quarterly town hall meeting. At the event, the Lagos State Governor restated his commitment to tourism.
He said: “For the people of Badagry, this will come as a sign of relieve because the historical heritage of the state, which have long been forgotten will be revived through this brand, One Lagos Brand,” he said. Ambode also added at the town hall meeting that, “One Lagos Brand will bring investment to the town of Badagry, as lovers of Arts, Culture and Tourism within and outside the country will visit Badagry, which means money for hotels, craftsmen and women, with other tourism potentials in Badagry”. Another avenue, which the Akinwumi Ambode’s administration will use to drive the One Lagos Brand for all Lagosians is construction of roads network that will bring tourism and its accompanying investment to the very remote parts of the state.
Network of Road…
Recently, the Governor went to inspect the 25 network of words linking Ikorodu, Epe, Agbowa, and Ijebu-Ode. During the inspection of some of the roads, Governor Ambode told journalists that the state government would claim back 200 meters of land from the Lagoon, aimed at giving a quantum leap to the tourism potentials. The Epe-Marina Lagoon and the Badagry-Marina in Lagos will be a prototype of the Dubai-Marina, which will have chalets along the costal axis for visitors who want to visit during the celebration of One Lagos or after it, to see how beautiful and serene places like Badagry and Epe can be. The project, which is being hastened, will be completed before the year runs out, according to him.
For residents of Epe, One Lagos Brand would not be a celebration they will forget in a hurry when it’s their turn to host it. The 25 roads that will lead to the event will be beautifully decorated with streets light that will not just be a thing of beauty but a move designed to enhance security during and after the event, it will also serve as a way of welcoming many who would be visiting Lagos for the first time with their money in their pockets because of One Lagos Fiesta. One thing is sure, the Ambode-led administration is poised to use the One Lagos brand to boost infrastructure and drive tourism and by so doing increase its IGR (Internally-Generated Revenue).
