Ambode Supporters Storm Lagos APC Secretariat Over Inaccessibility of Membership Cards

By Okunade Adekunle, Lagos

Some supporters of the incumbent Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, have staged a peaceful protest at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat at Acme, Ikeja, over inability to access their membership cards in their various wards, accusing the party’s state executive council of planning to be partial in the electoral process of the party’s governorship primaries slated for Tuesday, October 2nd.

The protesters who were led by the Deputy Chairman APC Somolu Local government, Alhaji Ola Sheu, were chanting solidarity songs with leaves in the hands, saying that they would not entertain any injustice by the state party leadership in the conduct of the governorship primaries.

While speaking with journalists, Alhaji Ola Sheu, stated, “We are here in support of Governor Ambode’s second term bid. And secondly, we are here because we have no trust in the electoral body that will conduct the governorship primaries in APC Lagos State. All our leaders in the party are partial and bias by endorsing an aspirant before the governorship primaries. The endorsement is unacceptable to us.

Sheu accused the party of denying them their membership cards because they are supporters of the incumbent Governor Ambode, urging the National Working Committee of the party to come to their rescue.

“We are crying loud to the National Working Committee of our dear party to intervene and rescue us from this situation. We have membership slips . Some weeks ago, our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu told us at a stakeholders meeting here in Acme that new members should go and register but now all those who registered newly want to be denied their voting right”, said Sheu.

He stated that the percentage of cards distributed was less than 10percent of the registered members of the party, adding that they do not have trust in leadership of the party from ward and Local government that was set up by the state executive of the party.

“If they want to conduct a free, fair and credible primaries election tomorrow, all those initially appointed as the electoral body from ward to local government should be stop and the National Working Committee should conduct it”, he said.

The protesters were in their hundreds with Governor Ambode’s campaign posters.
